Audi S8 2007 is equipped with a new V10 engine that capitalizes on the expertise of the Lamborghini Gallardo supercars. This ten-cylinder engine delivers 450 bhp at 7,000 rpm and 540 Nm (approximately 397 ft.-lbs.) of torque – the latter available from just 3,500 rpm – from a capacity of 5.2 liters. As on the Le Mans winning R8, the most successful racing car in the world, FSI gasoline direct injection assures superior power output in the Audi S8. This luxury sedan sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 5.0 seconds, and is electronically governed at 250 km/h (approximately 155 mph).
In the last quarter of 2005, Audi introduced a new S8, now powered by a 450 PS (331 kW) V10 engine derived from the 5.2 L V10 used in the Lamborghini Gallardo. Much public confusion surrounded this engine choice after Audi's initial announcement because its power output is identical to that of the W12 motor, prompting people to ask why Audi would bother with the development of the V10.
